Description

This 24-page booklet, published by UE in July of 2020, outlines UE’s philosophy of unionism, developed over more than eight decades of struggle.

The booklet makes the case that it is time for the broader labor movement to return to the sort of unionism that established the CIO. Them and us unionism won’t look the same as it did in the 1930s, but the same approach, which recognizes the fundamental difference of interest between workers and employers in the capitalist system, is necessary.

Drawing on UE history, “Them and Us Unionism” identifies five core principles of UE’s approach:

  • Aggressive Struggle
  • Rank and File Control
  • Political Independence
  • International Solidarity
  • Uniting All Workers
